Blending the grit of desert honkytonks with the soul of Americana storytelling, Billy Shaw Jr. Band delivers a sound they proudly call Country Rock and Americana Roll. Fronted by Tucson native and Nashville recording artist Billy Shaw Jr., the band is known for high-energy performances, heartfelt songwriting, and a uniquely Southwestern take on modern country music.
After years of lighting up stages at festivals, country bars, and rodeo dance halls across Arizona, Billy made the journey to Music City to record his debut self-titled album with Nashville producer Rodney Goode and his platinum-selling wife, country star Jamie O’Neal. The album plays like a musical memoir — from the fiddle-laced tearjerker “Bar Down the Way” to the rowdy, rocking “Getaway Driver,” each track paints a vivid picture of love, heartbreak, and dusty-road redemption.
Billy’s music draws from a deep well of influences — Dolly and Kenny, sure, but also the Beatles, Barbra Streisand, and the slapstick country charm of “Hee Haw.” He picked up the violin at age nine using a hand-me-down and a brown paper bag, eventually becoming first chair in his school orchestra under the guidance of a Tucson Symphony musician. Life pulled him toward college athletics and a mathematics degree, but his fiddle never stayed quiet for long.
After cutting his teeth in the local scene, Billy formed the Billy Shaw Jr. Band following his win in the 2016 Nashville Next competition. Since then, the band has become one of Arizona’s most in-demand acts, sharing stages with country stars like the Oak Ridge Boys, Lauren Alaina, Ronnie Milsap, Thompson Square, Josh Abbott Band, Trey Lewis, and more.
Billy — instantly recognizable by his signature black-framed glasses — performs alongside a tight-knit group of seasoned musicians: Amy Muñoz (bass/vocals), Bobby Soto Jr. (drums/vocals), and Johnny “Hollywood” Pesqueira (lead guitar/vocals). Together, they bring a dynamic mix of fiddle, guitar, harmonica, and harmonies that keep dance floors packed and hearts engaged.
